Internal Name Server
Hi All-
I am brand new to this realm and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I have a webserver hosted on my machine and dont want people on our network to have to type in my local IP in order to get the pages served on my computer. Is there a way to create a domain behind the router so that people in the office can just type in something.something.something and get to my webserver which is also behind the router? Thanks in advance. Greg PS. At the present, we have no Linux boxes set up, but I can set one up if need be. If thats the case and someone can suggest a good easy to install distribution that would be great too. |

No linux required. All you need is a DNS server. I recommend the free and the most popular BIND server.
Direct BIND Download for Windows The BIND documentation and my example files should be all you need to get started. After attempting to setup the server by yourself, and you don't know what's wrong, feel free to ask for help. Please don't ask for help without first trying to make it work yourself.
