BTW thanks for the help on my last post, ive decided i like the people in this forum alot. In any case, im not done pestering you yet either .. it sux to be looked up to, as im discovering here at work.
foreward behind us, i need to know why the address i ping myself at doesnt work for an address from which to access the internet? I understand that in order to run dedicated host-services such as the web site and mail server it would be a better idea not to let the software configure its own IP address, but the one i seem to have doesnt even let me surf the web. Im missing something major here.. good day toyall I |

Um, not sure what you're talking about here. I scrolled down and couldn't find any other posts you've started on this page. Give a guy more details. The most important detail being the IP address. And the second thing is, are you talking about the IP not resolving to a domain when somebody on the internet tries to?

what i mean is ....
I have a range of IP addresses which are "mine" ..
xxx.xxx.xxx.34-38 ... xxx.xxx.xxx.33 is my gateway ... i run redhat-config-network and edit my ethernet device, where there are two options, one sets my IP address through DHCP, and the other is for manual configuration, knowing what my IP ought to be, i choose to set it manually, my gateway is xxx.xxx.xxx.33 (this is printed clearly for me on the info sheet from my ISP) then i need to assign myself an IP address, anything from .34 to .38 ought to be appropriate right? If so, why can't I surf the web with this IP assignment? Mozilla's status bar wont get past host resolution. It would seem to be a DNS issue then, right? but in my redhat-config-network interface, ive got the primary and secondary DNS resolvers for my ISP entered correctly, so i dont think this is the problem. DNS has me in a BIND, so to speak, maybe from here BIND is what i ought to be configuring? someone try to surf to playersxtreme.com and see what happens please? |

Not at all, you have a networking issue. Quote:
Have you tried DHCP? You really need to post more information, like type of ISP, routers, hubs, etc. You should also try posting in the Networking forum.
