OK, where to start??? I have almost NO clue what I am doing. I can read, I can type, and I can somewhat follow directions, but STILL cannot get DNS to recognize my website. Using Plesk and Windows 2003 on godaddy.com. I tried following the "sticky" forum post on setting it up, but cannot open the files. Always asks me if I want to reconstruct the missing volumes, then these errors:
! Cannot open Bind !Cannot open phpBB3 (not even on my server) !Cannot open phpMyadmin !Access is denied (all of the above) !C:\Documents and settings\Administrator\My Documens\wrar371.exe: It is not a volume. So, off I go trying to input the values again in Plesk. Tried following the directions there and my inputs for domains are : Type: NS Enter domain name: NS1 <.athenasrealm.com> (Brackets are unchangeable). Enter server name: NS1.ATHENASREALM.COM Type NS Enter domain name: NS2 <.athenasrealm.com> Enter server name: NS2.ATHENASREALM.COM Type A Enter domain name NS1 <.athenasrealm>.com Enter IP address xxx.69.181.109 Type A Enter domain name NS2 <athenasrealm.com> Enter IP address xxx.69.181.168 Then went off to server side DNS and input with these: Type NS Enter domain name: Left blank as the instructions I was following only said to input name server. Also has a <.domain>. after the input field which I cannot change. Enter name server: NS1.ATHENASREALM.COM Type NS Enter domain name: Same as above Enter name server: NS2.ATHENASREALM.COM Type A Enter domain name: Blank again Enter IP address xxx.69.181.109 Type A Enter domain name: Blank once again Enter IP address: xxx.69.181.168 Both NS1.ATHENASREALM.COM and NS2.ATHENASREALM.COM have been registered with godaddy and show in my accounts page as my nameservers for my domain, so I am guessing I did those right on the godaddy end. I then go to mozilla, type in the website address and get: The requested URL could not be retrieved While trying to retrieve the URL: (address blocked:forum rules) The following error was encountered: Unable to determine IP address from host name for (address blocked:forum rules) The dnsserver returned: Name Error: The domain name does not exist. This means that: The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL. Check if the address is correct. Your cache administrator is root. Generated Sun, 27 Apr 2008 17:09:30 GMT by cache.manti.com (squid/2.5.STABLE6) So, after a full day searching forums and prolly screwing my server up to where I have to reprovision it, here I sit, lost like a fart in a whirlwind and still not being able to see my website...Any suggestions besides drop back 10 yards and punt??? |

Can you paste your DNS config for me. |

I am assuming you mean whats in my \plesk\dns\etc file? I do not have a dns.conf anywhere. Only have named.com, named.pid, named.user.conf, rndc.conf and rndc.key in the file. Which one would be the DNS config? Sorry for being such a worm/newb, but as the post says, "It's confirmed, I am an idiot." |

Everyone starts learning somewhere.... No need to classify yourself as an idiot... yet. ![]() I actually need to look at the zone file. Would have the extension .dns |

I only have place.dns, cache.dns and athenasrealm.com.dns, but none reside in the plesk\dns files. Did a windows search for zone.dns and got nothing, and got those three from just a <.dns> search. Which one you want?

According to the search file, it is in C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Recent, as well as /system32/dns/backup and system32/dns. Is that where it should live?

Well, if anyone is willing to take a shot at fixing this, I am willing to pay them (PayPal or whatever works for you). I am completely at my wits end. I am on MSN Messenger. Thanks in advance.

As it's the weekend, people are on here less than normal.. Be patient, and we will help as soon as we can.. ![]() With that said, do you have full permissions to access everything? I noticed the access denied in your first post. |

Logged on as Network Admin, so I suppose I SHOULD have full access. The access denied was from being asked to restore missing something-or-others from a file downloaded from the sticky post, "You want to set up a DNS". Clicked yes and that's where those came from, so hence I came here, as I cannot follow the posted guide...

Ahh.. ok. Well it seems as though none of your A records were saved... your .dns file is blank for the most part missing all necessary entries. I sent you a msg at the acct provided above. (I would also not post an email address on an open forum). You may want to edit that out. It also shows you as being offline there. |
