My latest situation

after i went through all your related cname and 'a' record forum discussions, i understand that i cannot use nameserver names as my computer name. Please correct me if i am wrong.

When I tried to add to an 'a' record (known as CNAME) I have three boxes to fill:
Parent Domain name: already filled in automatically (i think it's correct)

Alias Name (uses parent domain if left blank):
In this box i'm trying to type in www.mydomain.com but it's not allowing me to use the '.' What am i doing wrong? I am not able to type atleast even 'mydomain.com' so do i call it something else like 'xyz'?

Fully Qualified Name For Target Host

Can I put run01.mydomain.com or do I have to browse and select one that already exists. (mycomputername.mydomain.com)

My latest situation now is this: if I type in my IP address, my site works, If I type my nameserver in, my site works too. But If I type in “www.mydomain.com” the browser is hanging.

Could anyone please help me.

I suppose you don't find it important enough to tell us what DNS server you are using...

Sorry, I did not mean to hide anything, I haven’t got any of my true details here because my company doesn’t allow me to do so. They say, some of their customers, while they browsed the Internet, they found some of our discussions that belong to our company, and they undermined our ability, and we lost the customers. So I would like to stay anonymous.

Silent rage replied and gave a link to some really helpful code, and after kicking it around all day, i managed to get it to work, but I still don't know if i've done the correct configuration or not. If my anonymity is 'Permitted', and if you don't mind, Silent Rage, can i email you on your personal account with all my real domain names and IP adressses?

My Current Situation now:

1.If i type in this into the browser:

www.mydomain.com - Working

www.myotherdomain - Been forwarded to mydomain.com and working

My IP Adress (192.166.7.xxx) - Working

So What on earth do I want now! I hear you asking

I want to make sure that my settings are correct, as i don't a long term bad effect...

...and...

...Well, My company want's to publish some other sites. Shall we just call it www.myfriendsdomain.com. I've a sample site for him, in my webserver, pointed to the IP Adress 192.166.7.xxy and i've added this address to my network ID

so, If i use this IP Adress, myfriendsdomain.com is working. But it isn't working when I use www.myfriensdomain.com it isn't working. Do I need to add another Zone or another Host? and what are the other neccessary settings?

Could i get any help as i have done in the past.
