Need help with BIND
I thought I knew enough about BIND to get by, but I am realizing I don't. I have a server with two domains already setup, mmwa-sicw.com and nitrogenweb.com, both of which have been working fine. I am now trying to add a third one, with no luck. Here are my DNS files. If anyone can see what is wrong, or offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have posted my files here: DNS files |

As you can see here:
http://www.dollardns.org/cgi-bin/DN...&lr=4&submit=DS Your domain has been properly added to the server. However, the zone itself is badly configured. Here's my suggestion for an alternative: http://serialcoders.sytes.net/BIND/...ationinc.com.db Also keep in mind that your domain is not yet registered and it won't work usefully until it is so.

Thank you for the help! The only thing though, is that I already registered my domain with aplus.net, and have told them to point to the nameservers ns1.asphaltrestorationinc.com and ns2.asphaltrestorationinc.com. Could it be something on their end that is not working properly?

In the above request I attempt to resolve the root domain to an IP. However, as you can see, it doesn't get very far. the Generic Top Level Domain (GTLD) dns root servers say that the domain does not exist (not registered). So either you misspelled the domain when you registered it, or the registrar hasn't registered your domain yet. |

I am seeing this on another site too (dnsreport.com), however, internic.com's Whois search is sending me information back, though limited. I called up aplus.net, and they recommended I change my nameserver over to ns1.nitrogenweb.com. Is this ok to do, and if so, how would that affect my dns files?

I've done a whois on your domain and found the following info:
Registrar: NAMES4EVER, http://www.names4ever.com Registration Service Provider: AplusNet(APRO) apro@names4ever.com www.aplus.net Domain Servers: ns1.nitrogenweb.com ns2.nitrogenweb.com ns1 points to 65.66.51.9 (UDP and TCP online) (valid host) ns2 points to 65.66.51.10 (UDP and TCP offline) (unknown) --- There is no problem whatsoever setting your domain servers to those domains (except the offline x.x.x.10 IP). However, your domain is still not registered in the DNS. You're in the phone book, but the number doesn't work. It appears that AplusNet works with NAMES4EVER to register domains. So it may be worth your while talking to them too. But this definately seems to be a problem on the registrar side rather than on your side. |

Thank you for the advice. I contacted them, and they told me nothing appears to be wrong, but if it does not update by tomorrow, they will open a trouble ticket. Not great news, but progress nonetheless. Hopefully this will be taken care of tomorrow, and if so, I am wondering what changes would I have to make to my zone files now that my domain points to ns1.nitrogenweb.com?

well if you insist on keeping your host server names ns1 and ns2 of nitrogenweb.com then you should make the following changes:
Delete the 'A' records for ns1 and ns2 "ns1.nitrogenweb.com." needs to replace all "ns1" 's "ns2.nitrogenweb.com." needs to replace all "ns2" 's Don't forget the period at the end of nitrogenweb.com. |

Ok, thank you for the suggestion. I will be sure to make the change. However, will I change my asphaltrestorationinc.com.db zone file, will I still even use it, or will nitrogenweb.com.db handle everything now?

Well yes "asphaltrestorationinc.com.db" is still required.
