new server, new distro

Hello,

I want to export my bind configuration from Redhat 7.3 to a Debian 3.0R2. Are there any tools to do such a thing or do I have to do it manually? If it is the last, which I think it is: What are the possible problems?

1. Other directory named.conf?
2. Other directory zone files?
3. Other known problems?

Please let me now.

Thnx!

don't trust in tools for such a simple task. Tools may do it wrong and you won't know what they did. If you do it wrong doing it by yourself at least you know what you did.

you will need to transfer the following files to the same directories on the new server. some files may not exist on the old server and that's ok.

/etc/named.conf
/etc/rndc.key
/etc/rndc.conf
/etc/named.custom

/var/named/*

That should cover all of your BIND configuration files.

debian uses /bind/named.conf and not /etc/named.conf

What steps do I have to make to let /etc/named.conf work?

By default BIND is compiled to use /etc/named.conf however, you can change the file BIND loads via a commandline parameter. So check the startup scripts on your new server to see how BIND is executed on boot. If you see that it set the conf file to /bind/named.conf then you can remove that commandline parameter.
