I am at my wits end here trying to figure out a DNS problem. No matter what I do, I can't manage to get my domain name to point to my IP address. I've successfully set up hundreds of other domains, but for some reason this one isn't working. This domain has been working fine for several years. I recently changed the server it was hosted on, and thus the ip address it was pointing to. In a fit of stupidity, I deleted the record in my DNS server. I have since recreated the DNS record in the same way that I would with a new domain name. It won't pull up using other people's DNS servers, however.
The domain name is: ChicagoPeriodontal.com The DNS servers are: HOST2.OUTFLOW.NET, HOST1.OUTFLOW.NET, in that order. The DNS servers are running Win2k. The DNS records seem to be set up correctly in HOST2 and HOST1: www a 209.164.40.154 (same as parent folder) a 209.164.40.154 When I set my local DNS to HOST2.OUTFLOW.NET, etc. it pulls up fine, but when I set my local network connection settings to choose a DNS automatically for me, ChicagoPeriodontal comes up with a cannot find server error message. An NSLookup comes up with: *** rs2.charterpipeline.net can't find chicagoperiodontal.com: Non-existent domain Any help that you guys could give me would be incredibly appreciated. Thanks! |

To pull your registration info visit the following 2 URL's.
whois chicagoperiodontal.com As of this post, this is part of what it says: Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD Updated Date: 30-jan-2004 Creation Date: 17-jan-2002 Expiration Date: 17-jan-2005 The official definition of REGISTRAR-HOLD means: REGISTRAR-HOLD: The registrar of the domain sets the domain to this status. The domain can not be modified or deleted when in this status. The registrar MUST remove REGISTRAR-HOLD status to modify the domain. The domain can be renewed. The domain SHALL NOT be included in the zone file when in this status. And we find that they are right. Indeed, your domain is not in the zone file: dig @a.gtld-servers.net chicagoperiodontal.com So for this reason, your domain does not work. Recommended action is contacting your registrar about the issue.

Thanks! I had checked whois.sc/chicagoperiodontal.com and it said that it was expiring in 2005, but looking further down it expired this January. That makes total sense. I called Register.com and I just needed to give them a current credit card number.
Thanks again. |

yeah, you could see that expiration date also by clicking on the link in the report for the whois.register.com server.
whois -h whois.register.com chicagoperiodontal.com I should've mentioned this. The expiration date as returned by the internic whois server is deceptive. Last edited by SilentRage : May 23rd, 2004 at 08:59 AM. |
