The nameservers for my domain are:
ns1.myhost.com -> *.*.*.142 ns2.myhost.com -> *.*.*.143 I set up registered my nameservers at my registrar, Namecheap as such: ns1.mydomain.com -> *.*.*.142 ns2.mydomain.com -> *.*.*.143 However, after changing my domain ns records to ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com and after propagation, Going to mydomain.com doesn't load my webpage, but rather the default page for *.mydomain.com (where * can be anything) What did I do wrong? Could it be because there are no NS records on my actual nameserver (ns1.myhost.com) for ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com? Thanks in advance! |

Ahh lol there were some forums I went to that didn't allow you to put in your actual url... webmasterworld.com if I remember correctly.
Anyway here's the correct version: The nameservers for my domain are: ns1.dh.com.sg -> 203.117.141.142 ns2.dh.com.sg -> 203.117.141.143 I set up registered my nameservers at my registrar, Namecheap as such: ns1.ebloggy.com -> 203.117.141.142 ns2.ebloggy.com -> 203.117.141.143 However, after changing my domain ns records at Namecheap to ns1.ebloggy.com and ns2.ebloggy.com and after propagation, Going to ebloggy.com doesn't load my webpage, but rather the default page for *.ebloggy.com (where * can be anything; try typing http://anything.ebloggy.com) What did I do wrong? Could it be because there are no NS records on my actual nameserver (ns1.dh.com.sg) for ns1.ebloggy.com and ns2.ebloggy.com.com? Thanks in advance! |

Is 203.117.141.144 the IP address you were expecting to be published as the A record for ebloggy.com? If so, then the problem lies with your HTTP server virtual host configuration. |

That is correct.
Which means I'll have to contact my host to make what changes? |

To configure their HTTP server to serve requests out of the ebloggy.com document root in response to requests for ebloggy.com or www.ebloggy.com |

My host already serves my document root when ebloggy.com is requested. Only if ns1.ebloggy.com is used instead of ns1.dh.com.sg, then will it not work.
How do I configure it on my host? |

Ask them to configure it to serve files out of the ebloggy.com document root in response to requests for ns1.ebloggy.com as well. |

Thanks a bunch!
Do you have any websites, FAQ, message boards, or books to recommend me? I'm switching to Linux Redhat soon, and I'm a complete newbie. Will be trying to work out stuff like DNS, HTTP, PHP, MySQL, cron, IP stuff and basically know as much as possible. |

For Apache, the documentation at http://httpd.apache.org/docs has always been fine for me. For DNS, I'd strongly recommend using Dan Bernstein's djbdns instead of BIND. djbdns is far more secure (never had a security hole), robust and easy to configure. As for PHP and MySQL, the tutorials on DevShed were enough to get me started a few years ago. Also, there's a good book called PHP and MySQL Web Development which you can get from Amazon. Message boards: this one is pretty good. |
