Port Redirection/Forwarding for Mail
I have a static IP Address, W2k3, and Microsoft DNS. ALL ports are open from my ISP provider EXCEPT port 25.
I have MailEnable on my server accepting requests on port 26. Until now I have used an external DNS provider (DNSExit) and have been very happy with them, but wanted to set up my own DNS server. Everything works fine except the e.mail. I was wondering if there was a way in the Microsoft DNS setup or in W2k3 somewhere to set up Port Redirection or Port Forwarding and forward all requests for mail.mydomain.com to mail.mydomain.com on port 26? I know that this service is offered by other DNS providers but I really would like to do this on my own. Is there a script that I can add or somewhere to configure it? Thanks for your help in advance! |

"I know that this service is offered by other DNS providers but I really would like to do this on my own."
Well those other providers don't have port 25 blocked and can therefor redirect incoming mail to your server on your non-standard port. So you are forced to use a email redirection provider in order to get email at your local server. As for self-hosting your domains in the domain name system, that you can do. Read my tutorial in the sticky topic then ask questions if you run into difficulties trying to follow it.

My 0.02 worth...
If you ISP is blocking ONLY port 25, it maybe a knee jerk reaction to block spam. If they are a small to med sized ISP, ask if your Static IP can be unblocked. If not, get a new ISP, or continue with the re-director as SilentRage mentioned. Frog
