Read this before you post a message!
Rule #1
Please please please please please provide your real domain. If your domain doesn't work, long drawn out explanations of what you're doing will not help us help you nearly as much as knowing your domain. If we know your domain all you have to say is "My domain doesn't work! It is <blah.com>" and we can figure out what is wrong with it ourself. If your domain is a secret, then PM me with your question and I'll help you myself. But forum topics get priority. I don't want PMs unless there's a good reason. However, if you want, copy the following questionaire and paste it into your question post with the related answers. All these answers are optional. 1a) What kind of DNS server are you using? 1b) If you're using BIND, what version is it? 2) What is the IP address of your dns server? 3) What operating system is it running on? 4a) Is the dns server located on a home cable/dns connection, business network, or leased dedicated server? 4b) If it is hosted at home, what ISP do you use? After filling out the questionaire if you want to post error messages that would be extremely helpful. If you want to post your configs, attach them, don't paste them into your post (much neater that way and probably ends up with fewer people merely skimming your post) P.S. If your question is BIND related then you should read the other sticky topic for a step-by-step BIND setup tutorial.

Rule #3 - on advertising
You may advertise free dns services/tools in any form whether they are yours or somebody elses. This is because such information is considered helpful rather than capitalistic. You may not create new topics to advertise pay-for services/tools whether they are yours or somebody elses. This is to avoid spam. (thankfully, not a problem we've had) You may however *suggest* pay-for dns services/tools as a direct answer to somebody's question whether the services/tools are yours or somebody elses. Abuse of this rule however won't be tolerated. Such suggestions must be relevent and made sparingly. This rule was made to encourage a limited form of advertising. ya, over 500 people have read it. But I got a bit peeved when I saw that the "Generic DNS References and tips" sticky topic which was posted over a month later was read by more people. So I figured this was the most useless of the sticky topics for these reasons:
1) not as many people read it 2) it is not really a help topic, while the others are 3) I noticed people who asked questions pasted files instead of attached files - a clue they didn't read the topic. So since I figured it was the most useless topic I removed it. I don't like having too many sticky topics. It's ugly. |

I read it
But of course it was after you un-stickied it and I had already broken the rules.
So I guess my reading did not really count. |
