Setting up sub-domains for institutional webserver
I'm struggling with sub-domains configuration for a couple of days now but it seems that I still lack some basic knowledge in the DNS subject...
What I have is a LAMP based on Ubuntu Server with Bind.
The server has a public IP (my_ip) and a domain pointing to it: mydomain.institution.com
which is registered at my institutions nameserver (university).
I want to be able to setup few subdomains all pointing to various sites and services at the same IP (my_ip) like:
Since the server is still under development the subdomains will change and I want to have full control over them, therefore I would like to avoid using my institutions nameserver.
My questions are:
1) can I do that on my own or does it require any configration changes at my institutions name server?
2) how do I go about registering that DNS?
3) do I need two name servers or the one at my_ip will be enough?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can't do it on your own.
The main domain (institution.com) is registered with the institution DNS.
They should configure their DNS and specify that mydomain.institution.com is server by your DNS server.

Thank you, that clears everything.
