Setting up DNS in windows 2003 Server (NS error)
OK I set up the domain war3ft.net. ANd I used ev1servers.net.
ns1.war3ft.net is the name server I tried adding ns2.war3ft.net (which is the same computer but a different IP) and ev1servers.net gives me this error:"Unable to add nameservers: Command failed: unable to verify existence of nameserver ns2.war3ft.net " And it doesn't work when you try it here: http://www.dollardns.net/cgi-bin/whois/nameserver.pl?query=ns2.war3ft.net But ns1.war3ft.net works fine, I'm so confused. Although when I test these out at the following link: http://www.dollardns.net/cgi-bin/dnscrawler/index.pl?server=ns2.war3ft.net&name=www.cottee.net&type=A&class=IN&flags=256&lr=4&submit=Send+Query I see that it doesn't work correctly (at least I think so according to a few threads). I also ordered the following domains: hrsconstruction.org and war3ft.org. I added these to the forward lookup zones on 2003 and told ev1servers.net to use the two name servers I have specified above. I don't understand why war3ft.net works correctly, and I can set up subdomains, but I can't get the other 2 domains I ordered (hrsconstruction.org and war3ft.org) to work correctly. DNS just doesn't seem to be working according to that link above. Any suggestions from anyone? Does it have something to do with how I set up my machine name? It is supposed to be main2003.war3ft.net, but this doesn't work unless i create a main2003 subdomain pointing to my IP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Josh |

For sure for sure, the registrar won't allow you to add ns2.war3ft.net until it can verify the existance of the name server. As you see using that 'Whois Direct' name server query, it doesn't exist in the registry. So register the name server like you registered ns1.
Also you've got a DNS server at the IP 38.113.137.7 which is currently working. The DNS Crawler link you had was querying a different domain (cottee.net) and your name server tried to resolve it, but the dude who owns cottee.net hasn't setup a www host A record yet, so it *looks* like a failure. But it's not your fault. Anyway, it appears everything is working perfectly. dig www.war3ft.net

the only problem I'm having now though is that I can't add any new domain names.
Like I have war3ft.net working correctly. But when I try to set up hrsconstruction.org and war3ft.org it doesn't work right. I have ns1.war3ft.net set up as the nameservers on my 2003 box as well as on ev1servers.net. I did that like 4 days ago, shouldn't it resolve by now? |

little less than 4 days I think.
whois war3ft.org According to that the domain was only just registered on the 4th. The domain also has 1 dns server listed. It is also currently in an "INACTIVE" state which means it will not propagate to the DNS. The INACTIVE status *might* be because you only have 1 dns server listed. You should use 2, even if they point to the same IP. The same is true for your other domain: whois hrsconstruction.org |

well even if I make ns2.war3ft.net point to the same IP I still get this error: "Unable to add nameservers: Command failed: unable to verify existence of nameserver ns2.war3ft.net"
And I have 38.113.137.7 pointing to ns1.war3ft.net and 38.113.137.8 pointing to ns2.war3ft.net. They are both the same machine, I don't understand why I get that error. Do I have to register my name server? and if so how? |

Well you registered ns1 right? Do the same thing for ns2.

I did and it doesn't work. Originally I had to set up ns1 with ev1servesr.net and told it to point to an IP. I did the same last night with ns2.war3ft.net.
Well I could add ns2.war3ft.net as a nameserver for war3ft.net, but not my other 2 domains ![]() |

Ok, ns2 has taken effect. You're green to set your name servers to ns1 and 2.
whois nameserver ns2.war3ft.net |

"Unable to add nameservers: Command failed: unable to verify existence of nameserver ns2.war3ft.net " |

That's very strange, wait another day then if you still can't add the server then complain to your registrar.

ok I emailed my tech support and check this out:
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=ns2.war3ft.net This one doesn't work either: http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=ns1.war3ft.net What have I done wrong? |

"I can not do a DNS report on a hostname (such as mail.example.com) or a domain name that does not have its own zone"
You're using the dns report script for purposes it was not intended for. Your domain is working, and here's the proper request: dnsreport war3ft.net |

anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can do?
I can make ns1.hrsconstruction.org and it sorta works: http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=hrsconstruction.org I don't understand why I have to do this thought when it points to the same IP addy. |
