Can anyone tell me the steps I need to set up my own DNS server so that I can manage my own DNS entries for my websites that I currently host?
Basically I dont wish to use a third party as I have a number of sub-domains. I have heard that I need to buy an IPSTAG for £500 per year to manage .co.uk. What about .com addresses? Also if I want to have ns2.mydomain.com as my nameserver how do I let the 'world' know this address? |

This is only if you want to actually handle the registrar-level stuff for .co.uk domains - you don't need this if you just want to publish DNS information. Generally, only ISP's and internet companies who register large numbers of domains become Nominet members because they can justify the expense, though there are exceptions (Alan Cox for example) and Nominet is open to individuals as well as companies - see http://www.nic.uk/Members/MembersFaq/ Quote:
You have to create these records with your registrar. See http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/dot-com.html
