Slow/Bad DNS on Win 2k3 Server
I have a Windows 2003 server running:
Active Directory DNS DHCP (Not turned on yet) I'm just testing this computer before we go live and for some reason DNS queries are failing and going VERY slow. The DNS server is setup as a forwarder, in other words it's set to resolve local intranet names, and to forward ANYTHING else to the ISP. When I have the server its self or other computers using the server for DNS, queries fail often and if they work they are very slow. The second I have the computers use the ISP for DNS queries everything works great and it's blazing fast. Is there any reason why the DNS is running so slowly and queries are constantly failing? Is there anyway to view what's in the DNS cache? Can I get and DNS information from the ISP that I could use on the server? Thanks. - Clayton ![]() |

Are you using BIND DNS server? If not, I don't know the answers to any of your questions.

This is the preferred method if your DNS needs to be fixed/setup fast and you don't have the time to bounce messages back and forth on a forum. To be honest, I don't know if this is BIND DNS. I am NOT a windows person at all and I don't know what the default for Windows 2003 Server is.
Sorry. FWIW Things seem to be picking up now... |
