Hi
I have just signed up for ADSL with a provider. They have given me a domain name and webspace. I'd like to create subdomains using their online tool. It currently gives me the following options: Quote:
I'm unsure at to exactly what I need to enter. I'm guessing that I need to enter the subdomain in the left field, CNAME in the Type, and [yoursite].co.uk in the right field. Please can someone let me know if this is correct? Many thanks!

Why don't you read their documentation?
Anyway, you should NOT use CNAME records at all. I can't justify this from my head, but I have read several articles and books that had good reasons. Quote:
Hardly anybody but your provider or people with the same provider. "left side" and "right side" are no professional wording... ... but I guess "yes" ![]() "pri" is definitively for Mail eXchanger entries only because they are the only records I know of that have a PRIority setting. hth, M.

Actually, they don't have any documentation.
I've learned a bit about it over the weekend. "Left side" and "Right side" do have meaning, they've been used by some DNS systems, along with PRI, which means priority. |

Exactly. Left side and Right side of the CNAME/A and Pri information, exactly the same way you would script a DNS record manually.
