Hello,
I am in need to know how I would configure bind to do the following. I need to run many ten's on thousands of websites, these will mostly be on one of five domains (based as a subdomain, username.domain.com). Obviously I would be using loads of servers plus the 4 dns servers (if needed, please say). I just would like a quick outline on what bind can cope with, i was told ages ago that bind can cope with into the billions of dns entrys. I would proberly use 'A' entrys to the server where the member was. The network of servers must be able to cope with alot of traffic because their will be masses of sites. As you proberly guessed it will be a free hosting service. I would like to know all your comments on this matter and which is the best way todo it. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Subdomains

It is typically recommended that you use 3-7 dns servers distributed across different regions (not on the same network). I just would like a quick outline on what bind can cope with The root servers which hold the registration of the world's domains use BIND. Need I say more? I would like to know all your comments on this matter and which is the best way todo it. I suggest that you get somebody experienced with dns server management to manage your dns servers. Improperly configured DNS servers may *work* but they'll cause additional strain on the servers which may compromise your reliability.
