Verisign DNS landgrab
Some of you probably know this already, but here goes:
Last week, Verisign added wildcard A records to the top-level com and net domains. Effectively, this means that any unregistered or mis-typed domain names resolve to a "sitefinder" service run by Verisign. Essentially, they are exploiting their position as administrators of the com and net domains for commercial gain. But it doesn't stop there. This causes a load of problems for systems administrators and those attempting to debug DNS issues, and some additional privacy issues. See http://homepages.tesco.net/~J.deBoy...ernet-coup.html for further information on this. There is a petition that you can sign if you feel that Verisign's behaviour is monopolistic. http://www.whois.sc/verisign-dns/
