Here's the scenario with a fictious domain name.
My registered domain name is URL URL is being hosted by URL and I am using their name servers to resolve URL I move into my own building and my broadband access is being supplied to me by URL. The business plan is what I purchase which supports dns pointers. I stand up a webserver for company access and I want the website url to be sharepoint.mycompany.com. Can I have URL make the DNS entry sharepoint.mycompany.com and have it point to the ip that I received from them and will it resolve? thanks |

no cause it's the hosting service that is supplying dns for your domain, not the ISP. The DNS setup at your ISP won't be used. The only thing you can use your ISP for at this point is reverse DNS resolution (IP to domain).
