    My Own Dns Server

    Hello,
    I run a small network and depend on an overloaded DNS server at a remote site. Locally , all we do is browse the internet , but we are normal shut off the dns server when traffic gets too heavy . I would like to improve up time here by setting up a DNS server (that could resolve "mail.yahoo.com" for example ) as an alternative.

    We run an all windows network and with just 6 clients .

    I have heard about caching only nameservers , free dns servers , etc but am not quite sure or do not fully understand setting it up .

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Ah, I assumed you may be using BIND since you mentioned free DNS server.

    For 2000 check here -->http://www.labmice.net/networking/DNS.htm

    There's tons of info there and you may also want to check out this on Microsoft's site http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...t2/tcpch06.asp

    DNS on 2000 is quite easy to install and get going. You just have to run a wizard and it does most of the work for you.
