8051 microcontroller program download

Hi guys,

Just a quick question.

I have created a simple led program for the micro and it downloads into the board without a problem and runs as it should when the serial cable is connected (PC into micro) as soon as I remove the serial cable it no longer functions as it should and I have no idea why not? Any help would be appreciated.
