embedded Firebird DB engine

I would like to compile the Firebird DB engine in with my C++ coded application on Solaris. I know that there is an embedded version of FirebirdSQL for windows (fbembed.dll), can I do this with FirebirdSQL for Solaris?

Also, can you use ODBC with firebird on solairs, and would using ODBC make any sense with an embedded DB application?

This information didn't seem too clear in the developers guide, or in the EmbedSQL.pdf file in the interbase 6.0 documentation.

Thanks.

Embedded Firebird on Unix - Solaris or Mac OS X?

Did you get any response to this question? I see from a later thread, http://forums.devshed.com/t113810/s.html, that someone has posted info for compiling the classic server on Linux:

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=7096578

I am interested in if anyone has done this for Mac OS X? I presume with some tweaking to change some lines to ".dylib" rather than ".so" and a few others that it should be possible?

As for ODBC, if you are looking for a standard API that will let you move between common DBs, I am looking at SQLAPI++, http://www.sqlapi.com. It's looking pretty good, and works with both the regular and embedded Firebird libraries on Windows. I'll post another thread asking if anyone has more experience with it.
