error message: there are not a visual studion valid version

OK, i try to build Firbird and therefore I try to execute prepare.bat script, however I get an error message: "there are not a visual studion valid varsion in your path. You need Visual Studion 6 or 7 to build Firebird"

Why it is so? I have both - VS 6 and VS 7 (.NET) on my computer and I have put their 'bin' and 'common/tools' and
MSDEV or IDE folders in my path, however - message doesn't disappear.

Can anyone give some advice?

Execute vsvars32.bat from your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\Tools folder (or equivalent file for different version of VS)

[QUOTE=fikret]Execute vsvars32.bat from your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\Tools folder (or equivalent file for different version of VS)

Thanks for advice, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I executed it and now my path contains the following entries as well:
"
C:\Progra~\Microsoft VisualStudio\Common\Tools;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\Msdev98\BIN;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio\DF98\BIN;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\BIN;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Vc7\bin;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\Tools;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE;
C:\Progra~\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\Bin"

however - the error message remains previous.

What I'm missing? OK, I would ike to build using VS7 and therfore I can guess that additional pathces adn updates isn't need (as it is for VS6).

Kind thanks for any suggestion in advance.

PS well - can i try to posix build on cygwin installation? What are your experonce about it?

I think that you need to run things in this order:

1. Start cmd.exe
2. Execute vsvars32.bat in the same command prompt
3. then run prepare.bat and others

But all in the same command prompt session!
