Firebird, BDE, ADO

Hello,
I'd like to migrate with my app (which uses Firebird) from BDE to other technology.I'm looking for:
-db independent technology
-something faster than BDE

I was thinking about ADO (not ADO.NET) but it seems there is problem with ADO drivers for Firebird. Could you recommend good Firebird driver for ADO?

There is also option to use ADO with ODBC, but I've heard that's really slow...

Any advise would be appreciated!

KS

DB independant?
You can try DBExpress.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I've read that it works eficiently only with small datasets...

Moreover there is only one dbExpress driver for FB: InterXpress. Do you have any experience with it?

Eventually I'm not sure of dbExpress technology. Will Borland develop it?

How about speed/feautre comparision dbExpress vs ADO?

I'm working with large datasets. I need technology and driver that can handle it efficiently. I'd like also to have an oportuninty, when working with large datasets, to download from server only small amount on data and rest of it download using 'on demand schema'.As far as I know ADO supports this feature.

It would be also great choose technology which is fast&easy to use

Regards,
Kevin Smith

I will meet similar task in near future - it would be nice to find some technology which can be used for migrating gradually setp by step - i.d. using some time BDE together with other DB access technology. I have heard - that due to way in which BDE handles transactions it is impossible, but maybe some woraround exists.

What about BDP which is in Delphi 8, 2005 - is any future for it to work together with FB?
