Is there a Linux program to easily view and edit a Firebird database?

I'm looking for a program that a user can use to view and edit a Firebird database. The database will be on the same machine, and the user is assumed to not have any experience with firebird.

anything out there like this?

You mean GUI? Yes, there is. Try FlameRobin. Highly recommended!
If commandline util is enough, there is isql util in firebird/bin folder.

Hmm. I don't think Flamerobin or isql would qualify for someone who is "assumed to not have any experience with firebird."

I would try it, but I can't get it to work. I've reformatted and followed the instructions exactly.

Flamerobin is a favorite as is Squirrel SQL
Squirrel requires the Jaybird driver from the firebirdsql.org site but works well.

If you wish to purchase a program there are a few made for windows that are supposed to work through wine.

Flamerobin works great, but isn’t really for those faint of heart. Even on the initial steps like when creating your very first table you cannot do anything just by filling in simple dialogs but must write SQL instead.

OTOH, I guess learning SQL is obligatory anyway if Firebird is to be your mate.

This is for any database, but I agree that some features of Flamerobin are implemented with the expert in mind.
Note that you can use MsAccess/OpenOffice Base for some tasks and both can be very user friendly
