new installer for fb 1.5 win32 (test not final)
UPDATE :RC 7 is out
so this you don't need this test build
New installer for win32 , this is fb 1.5 rc6.5
(before 7) and it may break some things on your system
Try it with care is a test only version (not final)
Quote:
I've made more tweaks to the win32 installer. Hopefully this nails down the
rest of the problems. (Some chance!)
Changes:
o Detect a running Firebird 1.5 Server, even if pre-installation analysis
indicates no server is installed.
o Remove quotes from the installation path. This was screwing up the
registry entry when 'Autostart as Application' was used.
However, there may be side-effects - the quotes were there in the first
place to make sure that paths with spaces in were handled correctly.
o Clean up deprecated features of earlier RC installs.
- Delete fbclient from <system> directory.
- Remove old FirebirdSQL registry entry.
o Add documentation on policy behind library installation under Win32
( A "must read" especially for insomniacs and tools developers.)
o Update the install notes for the binary install.
Another literary gem, but it does include documentation on the
/force option of the installer.
You can get this new test build at the same place as the last one:
www.ibphoenix.com
As usual this is a test build for the installer, not the engine. Feedback is
much appreciated, even if I don't get a chance to acknowledge everything.
Two possible gotchas to be aware of:
o The build number now correctly reflects the actual number of changes to
the fb 1.5 branch. So beta testers of the installer _may_ get in a muddle
with this. For lack of a better idea at the time some of the test versions
for the installer have been built with higher build numbers.
o If you install Fb 1.5 over an existing install and then old install was
set to autostart as an application and the new install is set to start
as a service the registry key for autostart as an app will not be deleted.
An error will be thrown after the next reboot. I've tried to fix this, but
to no avail. It appears to be an InnoSetup bug and will probably have
to be documented as a known problem.
