VB6 & Firebird

We are starting on one of our major accounting software package development(Off-the-shelve). We have selected VB6 & Firebird for our development. Can anyone tell me is there any discrepancy between these two, because two different vendors?

Are you aware that VB6 is being dropped by M$ in favour of Vb.NET? You are building on a foundation which is already old.

We are aware of the situation we can change to V7 no problem, but my main issues is VB & Firebird due to two diffrent vendors.
