(newbie) Can't Install Firebird
I am new to Firebird & new to writing software of any sort.
I can't seem to install firebird becase when I run instsvc.exe I get a "The INSTSVC.EXE file is linked to missing export ADVAPI32.dll:LsaNtStatusToWinError"
Now I have no idea what that means or what to do about it.
Any advise or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

it seems that is a WINNT , XP function only and doesn't work on win98 (I'm not a windows expert but this is how it looks )
maybe you can tell what realese candidate did you tried to install rc6 ?
If so then this problem will be submited to the

Oops, I neglected to mention something.
When I first tried to install firebird (126.96.36.19915_RC6_win32), using the install_classic.bat routine, it failed and gave a "A required .DLL fire MSVCP60.DLL, was not found". So I thought, maybe that file is somewhere on my hard drive where the installer can't find it. I did a search and found a file with that name in my "The Sims" directory so I copied it into the firebird /bin directory. The required .DLL message went away and instead I got the "The INSTSVC.EXE file is linked to missing export ADVAPI32.dll:LsaNtStatusToWinError" error.
I've since deleted and re-installed windows & delphi and tried to install firebird, but exactly the same thing happened.
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

From arthur anjos
so you can ask on support list
how to start firebird on windows 98
There must be something in documentation about this too ...
PS: one of my friends tell me that you can
put in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (to run at startup)
I think it should call "C:\firebird15\bin\fbserver -a" (of course replace it with the path you have installed)

Thanks, I'll look into that. I still have a lot to learn about entering keys into the registry & so on.
For now, I seem to have installed Firebird ok (except for the error message I mentioned before). I can access firebird using isql.exe, but I can't get a Delphi app to see Firebird. My sample ibobject projects give me a database unavailable when I run them & when I try to point an IBOtable at a database, I also get a database unavailable message.
I would appreciate any advice or comments.

Do you have gds32.dll in system folder?

I copied gds32.dll to c:\windows\system\ and c:\windows\system32\
I wasn't sure which directory it should go into so I put it in both.
I haven't tried to update the registry yet.

I've installed firebird 1.0 now and my IB Objects work ok. Not sure what the problem with 1.5 was, but I won't worry about that for now.

I think that IB Objects work with gds32.dll calls and this dll is not installed in system folder by default (client dll for Firebird 1.5 is fbclient.dll).
