Can Named Anchors be invoked inside Movie Clips?

I have a navigation bar inside a movie clip and have different frames labeled on the movie clip timeline. I would like those labeled frames to be named anchors so that they will register in the browser's history and the user can click the back button to go back to them. I would normally just check the 'named anchor' check box, however it is dimmed inside the movie clip and I can't check it. Is there another way to do what I want or can named anchors not be used inside movie clips at all?
