Confidential File on Internet
Hi All,
I have a file which i want to share with some of my collleagues through my site. Also, 1) I want to restrict access to the file to a small set of people – about 50 people. 2) I want people to only be able to view the file online. 3) I do not want anyone to be able to download the file 4) I do not want anyone to be able to print the file. Does someone have any ideas on how to do it? Any useful leads will be higly appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Lonely |

Very impossible.
First, you want it to be only viewed online, and yet you don't want to people to download it. The way the net works is to see stuff on the net, you have to download it first, even if it isn't into one of your own folders. And you don't want anyone to print it. That is impossible, like it is impossible unless you also want no one to see it either. The little button that says PrtSc can copy exactly what you see on the screen, so people can copy it. And also, restricting access, while it is possible, is pointless. You would probably have to set up a HTTP authentication thing, and that needs a good server, or you could give people accounts to your server, but that is unsafe. And... really, if something is really confidential and it is really important that no one finds it, don't write it down. If you want your colleagues to see it, send it to them. Even if you come up with a way to do all of that, then you have the complication of the "pen and paper". Don't bother. |

Encryption is a good option, but if you don't know how to do it right, you shouldn't bother. Echelon picks up all internet transmissions, and looks for certain keywords and encrypted messages. All encrypted messages are decoded.

Got the solution
Hi jwhoisthebest,
With the help of some of my friends we were able to come up with something as follows: 1. A flash loader has been made which calls a avi file from the server... 2. The flash loader has inbuilt script where some usernames and passwords have been hardcoded. 3. The loader asks for the password and allows the avi file to download only if the values are authenticated. 4. Being a avi file, the user cannot press the print screen button. This way, the user cannot print the document, he gets a black screen Thanks for the help, Lonely |

Well I'll be damned. Never thought of that, although I know there is some software that you can use to print it, but it's rare.
Anyway, don't keep really confidential stuff in there. Beware the pen and the dissasembler. Also eschelon. The NSA is after you. |
