dynamic menu problem
I've made a menu (downloaded open source and changed it) which uses only one button symbol and generates other labes and buttons via actionscript. The labelling as well as the animation of the menu are controled solely by the script. The only button in the movie only determines the font-size of the menu.
It is then duplicated and labeled according to the instructions in d script. Now, i obviously want my different menu links to link to different urls (or in my case external .swf's') but if i assign a loadmovie command to the existing symbol, every link i generate from the script will load the same movie. What i need is someone who can tell me how to assign a link to the generated button or at least a variable, which will then be read by the symbol and loaded. I hope any of the made sense. Im linking the fla just in case. The main scropts are in the menu symbol, keyframes 1,2. 10x |

Hi, I'm a bit stretched for time just now. Modified what you provided, it's attached in MX format. There are some minor changes to menu frame 2/3, the one dealing with duplicating. I think the author confused -subthing with -n in some parts so I just changed that. Frame_Target is passed down to the button correctly now. I ran into some problems getting it to work as expected when published as flash 4, so i just upped it to v5. Drop it back down if you want and you will see that nothing happens when you click a button. I put traces in and the data seems to be passed ok, just not used. In some cases it would just replace the button clip, I think this is because it eval's the target to be 0 and in this case the button would be _level0..in itself..Anyway if you dont mind the version change then all's well if you do let me know and I will look at it later tonight or tomorrow morning. Maybe someone else can take off where i left in the meantime...:¬)
