Hi!, I want to edit a movie, let's say a birthday party. I want to include some text when the movie plays such as directed by...blah,blah, starring...blah,blah. How can I achieve those things?

I suggest you use a video editing application first, and then if you want to have it in Flash format, use this program to do so. Depending upon your OS, you may already have a simple video editing application installed. What OS are you running?

Can't I just directly transfer any .avi files to flash without using another program?

Yes you can if using MX, I don't know about 5 and below. It will give you the option of editing to frames and you can then create another layer on top to add text.
