Question Imported motion guide

I have a path to be used as a motion guide that is much easier created in the likes of illustrator or freehand than in flash itself.

So, I created it in freehand and imported it into flash. But when it is imported and used as a motion guide the object traveling on it goes straight up the middle of the imported "object"(for want of a better word) instead of following the squiggly line that comprises the content of that imported object.

Is it possible to use an imported path/line as a motion guide? If so how?

Maybe it is best to import it as a jpeg and create another layer above it and trace over it, then delete the jpg. Use high magnification for accuracy.
