Flash Player 10 - Introduction banner

I need to implement an introduction "banner" in my web site. I was asked to put a square, when the web page loads for a certain period of time, say half a second, with a message and this "square" stands uppon the web site. I've searched google and the examples i found did not work. The examples used javascript and flash. I can develop in those languages but don't know how to tell html to lunch a flash banner when the html loads. Can you help?
