What should I get?

I'm looking for a replacement to Powerpoint for classroom use (either projected on a screen or a television monitor). I'd like the sort of graphics that Headline News has (i.e., a "busy" screen with crawl across the bottom, several windows (one for graphics and one for lecture notes), flash effects as boders, etc.

What should I get (I can handle a moderate learning curve but can get local tech help if necessary)?
