Hello everyone,
Since I joined a few days ago, my organistaion GalacNet has been getting a few request on hosting and some questions about it as well.... Hope this cleasrs things up for free hosting as a whole. --- Uptime --- Generally we have a lower uptime guarantee. Even though we run on the same mechanics as COMMERCIAL hosting, we normally don't give the uptime guarantee. Why is this so? We support numerous other organisations on the same service and as we are not getting any direct revenue from this we are not able to list any TOS on our part. --- Support Issues --- As usual our support would be not as efficient as COMMERCIAL hosting companies. The reason for this is the same as the Uptime question. --- Mutual Benefits? ---- As a starter please don't abuse the FREE hosting networks and companies..... Think about this.... how about one day your Boss comes over and tell you "Hey Bob, lets provide free services to the world and while we are doing that and since its a FREE services how about you work for me FREE as well??" Most companies would require you to - Host Banners - Post on Forums - and so on....... This in turn generate revenue to maintain their expensive networks. The Hosting for you is FREE but no one is paying the connection bills or putting food into the Men and Women making the network WORK. --- No Mutual Benefit? --- If you find someone that would offer FREE hosting but yet does not require you to have or produce any returns for the organisation please rethink or re-read the TOS and TOA statements. - How long will it last? - Who is the person hosting me..?? - etc etc I have seen a lot of good men and women out there who offer to share their resources as they are under utilizing it. But also understand that they PAID for the hosting, doesn't use much and would like to share.... the person hosting does not want any thing in return. It sounds all too good to be true. And what if one day the Hoster decided to close down his site as the one year contract with the Hosting Company is expired.... now what will you do?? --- Want unlimited access? --- Even COMMERCIAL hosting companies can't give you unlimited access or space.... But even if they do why not sign up and start loading 100TB ( TB is not a typo ) to the servers.... what do you think will happen --- Last Comments --- I will end with a quote : "Think not of what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country" Sounds familiar? - Stop thinking of what you can get and how much you can get from the Organisation, think of how will that organisation benefit with you as an active team member which shapes it. Some comments please Thank You GQ Hong

Your welcome to join my organisation anytime! I think a few good hosts would definitely help to shape our team. You've made some good points here but let's not forget there are circumstances where a host can really benefit from a serious site and the right people doing the promotion. (we're not all teenage kids with pipe dreams and hoards of irresponsible friends.) You want exposure? That I can get you! ![]() I think the past week here has really demonstrated some of the things to watch out for. For both of us! Well, As I keep saying, I am serious and I do intend to go somewhere. I think rather than spending any more time chasing dreams though, I'll just let you guys know that I am willing to discuss any proposals through PM or email. If anything I've said interests you, you know how to find me ![]() |

What kind of proposals are you referring to?
Anyway the above was regarding Free Hosting in general with the Organisation not having any other commercial enterprise :P |
