Hyperboards.com Free Msg Boards

Has anyone out there signed up for Hyperboards.com's free message board service?

I have them and have repeatedly had Trojan virus warnings from my McAfee anti-virus software. I wrote to them complaining about the problem, but they haven't responded. Has anyone else who have used their boards have a similar problem?

Also, since their boards seem to be plagued with viruses (since they won't respond to me, I guess they don't care), does anyone out there know of other free message board services that give you the flexibility and board customization that Hyperboards gives their customers? I don't care about having advertising on the board, I just don't want my visitors to be nailed with viruses every time they visit!

I wrote down the name of the trojan virus I keep getting on the message board. McAfee always finds it in my temporary internet files for IE and this is the trojan name it pops up with:

Exploit-MhtRedir.gen

Anyone out there encountered this trojan before? It gets blocked on a daily basis. Either every or every other page view on the message board comes up with this and I'm getting a little tired of it.

It's real cool and has almost all of the features that you get from a paid board... but it's not released yet, in about another month. But the current version is also good! I have 3 succesful boards in proboards. They are the best!

Actually, I already have signed up for proboards.com. I am in the process of building up the new board to mimic what I had on Hyperboards.com, then I'll e-mail all my current board members to sign up and move over to the new board (luckily, I only have a few members - mostly friends.)

One thing though - how do I get the posts from the other board onto my new board? Should I ask everyone to re-post, or should I copy them over myself and mark them in the title as being a post on the "old board"?

I doubt that anyone will re-post if I ask, but I don't want to loose the information that people have already posted.

Suggestions on the best way to handle it?

It's a real shame with Hyperboards.com. Some time ago, when I had a different website, I had a message board with Hyperboards and I couldn't have been happier with it. That's why I used them again. Shame they're letting viruses run rampant in their system and that they won't do anything about it either!

I don't think you can copy the posts there. You will probably have to start over. I have a proboards board too. Try going to support (http://support.proboards.com) and ask if you could transfer the information from hyperboards to proboards.

I ended up making a locked board (viewable only) where I copy-&-pasted all the messages from the old board to the new one and instructed people to post replies to the other boards, making reference to the copied post.

The bad news about this transfer: I lost most of my members. Only TWO showed up at the new site and signed up again, and only one of them posted anything. *sigh*! DAMN that Hyperboards!!! My Forum was off to a good start until they mucked it all up with their pop-up viruses!! Oh well. I'm trying other avenues to garner members (like listing the new board on search engines, trying to push my website that has links to the forum, joining webrings, etc.) just shy of actually advertising (I don't want to pay to advertise a free website/forum that is mainly a "hobby", not a business!)
