Becareful If you want a free MySQL and PHP host. UK Tripod has these great features and more, but at a price. If you are located in Asia or Oceania (Australia, New Zealand...countries around there) then you cannot use the FTP that they provide. Their "WebFTP" is good, but slow, and when you have about 100 PHP files to upload, it takes forever.
Just a word of warning, but you all probably know this. ![]() |

no more MySQL?
Good. I agree. Another point is that starting today, their MySQL server(s) is/are down. For those of you who use their PHP service and such, this isn't too bad, right? WRONG! If you read the PHP4U FAQ carefully, you will see that at every page request, a connection to your MySQL DB is made before your script executes and is closed after. So on any PHP page, it will give you an error such as "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'members-free-php02.uk.db.lyceu.net' (113)". Okay, well, I can always use FreeSQL.org's services instead, right? Wrong, again! This error message is created because of the connection made before each PHP page, so the script, even if it connects to and uses FreeSQL, so the part that actually does do the connection/querying/retrieving results/disconnecting will not even get to parse... I hope they fix it soon, as my site is heavily dependent on MySQL as a back-end to almost everything...

Why not run your own web server? Anybody with a decent connection (dsl/cable) can do it and its easy.

Hallo,
I know this is an old thread but i think i can talk to the right people... I have a lycos-webcenter acount and like to connect to a database on another server. I looks to me that if you use mysql commands the server will try to connect to the database on the root (lycos). What do you think? (of course i get an error) ![]() |
