Angry Allowing internet users access to NAS Server (http and ftp)

Hi.

I have a Network Attached Storage device (Linksys EFG120) which is on my internal LAN. I have a Netgear DG824M ADSL Router/Firewall connected to the web. I would like to be able to access the NAS server from out on the web when away from home and am failing dismally to setup the connectivity!

I have configured the Netgear router to allow FTP and HTTP forwarding to the NAS Server - all I get is timeouts. The router reports the packets as being forwarded but there is obviously something else going on to interfere with them before they arrive at the server. The server is wired directly into the back of the router it has a local address of 192.168.0.201 and the router is at 192.168.0.1.

I have even tried forwarding ALL ports (1 - 65535) through to the server - still exactly same effect. Wouldn't want to leave it like that anyway of course!

Of course calling the server from an internal lan based PC works fine.

Any advice appreciated.

Not sure, but possibly somewhere in the web admin interface of the NAS, you have to enable external access. It may, by default, only allow connections from internal clients (from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255). There may be an option to enable external access as well.

Thanks for the thought but unfortunately there doesn't appear to any such option. I've raised a question with Linksys re this so maybe they'll come up with an answer, taking their time though!
