Question Another ProFTPD question: Cannot connect to the server

Hello,
Now that I got my ProFTPD server up and running, I can't connect to it. When I try to connect, I get the following message:

500 FTP server shut down (going down at Thu Aug 8 16:32:09 2002) -- please try again later.

Now, my server is running behind a NAT enabled router, so what I'm guessing is something isn't getting through. I have checked my configuration file, and I don't see any errors. I even tried:

MasqueradeAddress <real ip here>

That didn't work either. I am running rh 7.3 and ProFTPD 1.2.5. BTW, when I try to ftp to localhost, I get the same error message.

Thanks for the help

this is probably not NAT-related. seems like the default config of proftpd is being "disabled". good choice.

look for a file called "ftplogin" or "nologin" in /etc and / - if it is there, look inside. if it is empty, just delete it, if not, try to adjust the settings.

Well,
There is no 'ftplogin', probably because I didn't install an ftp server during OS installation. I have a 'nologin' located in /sbin. I opened it and all I see is random ascii characters, because its a program.

I think ProFTPD IS finding the config because it would alert me if it didn't. Also, when I issue a reread command to it, it returns OK as opposed to failed.

Any more suggestions?

Who read your other ProFTP thread? Don't use Another ProFTPD question: because we don't know which is your other thread, we just know you are having a ProFTPD connection problem in this thread.
Your subject title should be written as: ProFTPd: Cannot connect to the server

well some of us read it and helped him but we couldn't really help him any further than basic ftp knowledge because its a specific product that probably no one here except him uses, its really annoying when people ask questions about products weve never used and expect us to know enough about them to tell them why something works, when they dont even give enough description about the product to make sense of it. for example, there was a guy that posted in html and java about how he was playing sun7 or something else ive never heard of that had a 7 in it and something got messed up, how can he fix it? and then someone posted in the lounge earlier today asking how to use a particular feature of their cell phone. what do these people think we are?

Suppose you want to try spreading your sentences out over a few paragraphs before you slag other people off for not making much sense?
