Hello, You must have been asked about this many times.
I am running BulletProof FTP Server (v2.3.1.26) behind speedtouch 510 router/modem. The problem I am facing is that the server works fine only with about 50% of users or les. Users can't connect once their client turns to passive mode for some reason so they get stuck to LIST, also happened to show them the message "no port specified". 99% of users can't connect at all using IE or Netscape, actually their client crashes if I don't give them complete url with user and pass witch still doesn't let them in. Of course urls that point to certain files would never work via IE. The server works fine localy except the fact that I have to turn passive mode off to the client. Generally i guess the problem is getting stuck to LIST, it is more weird when the server works. I have set the server to passive mode cause I am behind a router, using the no-ip.com service and added my personal no-ip address to the Dynamic IP window of the server. I set to the NAPT settings of the router a new port 21 (outside), 6969 (inside), external ip 0.0.0.0 and internal ip 10.0.0.139 as set to my network settings. Back to the server I set it on port 6969 and port range 6969 - 6969. The server is using virtual directories and generally looks like it works fine here and to some internet users. On top of that I am using zone-alarm firewall for open process reasons, added the no-ip service to the trusted zone and every time a user can't connect I shut it down but looks like zone-alarm doesn't have to do with the prob. I guess the problem is not the no-ip service cause giving the user my running ip has same resaults even with zone-alarm down. Generally .. different clients from different users react in a different way but always negatively. My OS is winxp pro + sp1 fully updated via win-update, the setup is kinda excellent on a last technology pc. question 1: say i solve the problem after your solutions, .. there is no way for a user to connect without turning the client to passive mode ? like right away .. question 2: changing the outside port to .. say .. 2500 would cause more probs ? question 3: having different outside and inside port causes probs ? it is something easy for sure, .. i am just not a network expert sorry. this is the first time i post for help. hope i wasn't so boring, George thank you |

to use passive connection you have to create two napt rules at the router
first rule: port 21/21 (intern/extern) second rule: port 6969 (intern/extern) both pointing to you server ip (10.0.0.139) at the servers under 'multi ip settings'/'passive mode' you set yout range (6969-6969) hope this will solve you problem |
