Can't reach ftp server through browser
but I can use the commandline to get there.
The server is used to transfer large digital files. For some reason, when users enter ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the browser nothin happens, but I know the server is there because I can access it from the commandline ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, I can also ping and tracert the server. Any ideas what the problem could be? |

I think IE has a setting to turn on/off browser ftp, so check in there. If it is enabled, try using ftp://username
assword@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx if you're not using anonymous access.

I tried it in both IE and Firefox and I am able to reach other ftp servers.
I'll try your suggestion, thank you. |

Not too sure, maybe its running IIS and has directory browsing turned off. Dont know if that applies to FTP as well as HTTP, but that could be it. Why not download a client like SmartFTP (Free)

Have some more info: It's vsFTPd running on RH 7.3 and the problem was resolved after updating to the recent version of vsFTPd.

It will be used by clients to upload image files to the companies server. Using a browser is simply an ease-of-use issue. |
