correct proftpd configuration (using authuserfile & authgroupfile)

hi,
having tried for hours i have failed to set up proftpd to use authuserfile's and authgroupfile's correctly

debugging is proving unfruitful, i was looking for a working sample proftpd.conf & accompanying password & group file so i can work from there.

i'm just after the basics, to check un&pw against my my own files (i.e. not /etc/passwd) and then lock each user in the they're home dir.

if anyone has these facilities working perhaps you could post them here?

cheers
andy c.
