CuteFTP to Hard Drive (Log files)

Hi-

I'm having great difficulty trying to download the access-log and error-log files from the server to my hard drive. All I need to do is put them in their designated in folder on my computer so I can monitor my sites stats using Analog Log Analyser.

Each time I try to download, either nothing will happen or CuteFTP asks me if I want to overwrite the main index.html file (which shouldn't have anything to do with anything). When nothing happens- Cute looks like this:

STATUS:> Downloading directory access-log...
COMMAND:> CWD access-log
550 access-log: Not a directory.
ERROR:> Failed to change dir

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouldn't I just be able to dran n' drop those log folders onto my hard drive and run Analog? Are log files hidden at first on the hard drive?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Weird... o_O

Can you drag'n'drop the individual files, instead of the whole folder?

I have all my sites on one remote server- I want to create stats for all of them...the instructions say to open httpd.conf and modify the <Virtual Host> for each site. How would I go about doing this when dealing with the hosts server? Thanks for any help, I'm quite lost at the moment

It's almost certain that you can't edit the httpd.conf file unless you're running on your own dedicated server which by the sounds of it you're not?

It might be possible to do something with .htaccess files assuming your host allows you to use those, but I would have my doubts and I'd have to bow out to Apache experts on that one...

Hmmm...There must be a better way than downloading Analog 6 times for 6 different sites. Seems a bit redundant.

Install awstats, read the manual, and run the "update" process in a cron job on your server. That would be the better way. You'll then have self-updating web stats.

Awstats is an excellent log file analysis tool, and doesn't require root access in any way to run.
