FTP connection

hi guys..

recently ihave made a data server..which also react as an FTP sever..i'm using freeBSD (freenas)..i have enable the FTP..

i also have forward the port 21 and 20..i'm using the dlink router + adsl..which is DSL-2540T...i'm using the dyndns.com because i dont have a static ip..

my problem is that i cannot connect to my FTP server through another computer outside my house..

help me please.....

You are going to need to know your router's external ip address in order to access your server. This procedure can easily be looked up using google.

in the place of the host name you have to use ftp IP address...ex your host name is ftp.mydomain name.com...ping this URL ftp.mydomain name.com you will receive a Ip address use in the place of the host it will work..

Also if you are trying to just plug in your external ip into one of the computers inside of your network to test it, it may not work especially if you don't have the server machine in DMZ mode(mode in which router puts all ports open for your machine-treating it like a secondary router). Chances are that your ISP is blocking you from accessing your modem's external ip address from within the network to prevent attacks, there is nothing you can really do about this. My advice would be to remote desktop to a computer located outside of your LAN and try accessing your router's external ip that way. Let us know how it goes.
