Do I understand you correctly?
"ftp localhost" gives you "ftp connection closed" but from another host in the same network you are getting "connection refused"? - are you running a ftp server? which one? - the firewall could cause the "connection refused" but a ftp server configured not to accept requests other than localhost could do the same. get us some more infos about your setup, plz...

sorry
it's the ftp server that comes with iis5. set up is default, cause i just click setup =). the firewall and other settings i've no idea. and can't have access to. lol don't ask why, i'll just embarrass myself explaining. this one guy told me that the ftp that comes with iis can do downloads and uploads. then a person here told me that it couldn't do uploads. i haven't gotten a chance to find out. i'm just asking this, when i'm pretty sure it's the firewall. i'm hoping for a miracle =) |

The firewall of WinXP is in the properties sheet of the network connection you are using.
There is none for localhost, so until it does work with localhost, you donīt need to worry about the firewall. Maybe you have to setup a "virtual host" (whatever IIS calls it - "web site", "ftp site"?) for "localhost"? Honestly, no idea. IIS is a system that i never spent more time on than i really needed to. You should have a tree-view of your ftp sites somewhere. Or you should be able to "enable ftp access" for the web sites in IIS or something similar. Try to add "localhost" there for testing. "localhost" could also be refered to as "default host" in IIS terms... but again, not sure! M. |
