I have Windows Xp MCE and just installed "Nofeel FTP Server"
Set everything up made user and password for 3 user..Now when I try to connect to it from my PC using CuteFtp and WS_FTP Pro it connects and I can browse the Folder that I choose to share and do everything but when I give my buddy my FTP info IP,User,Pass he cant connect...He is using Cuteftp to try and connect....He gets an error Message"The connection operation failed due to an unreachable host. Verify that the server or IP address is correct and try again later....I dont even see that his Pc tried connecting to my Ftp in the log files.....Does anyone know what could possibly be going wrong.....I am on a Cable modem thru a Router and he is on Dsl...If that helps any....

Have you opened and forwarded the correct ports on your router to point to your PC?

How do you connect to the internet? If you use a router, you'll need to log on to that and look for a port forwarding option. If you connect directly to the internet through your computer, you should be running some firewall application which will allow you to open certain ports.

The ports you need to open depend on whether you're using active or passive FTP. If you take a look here you'll find out what ports you need to open. If you're using active FTP, ports 20 and 21 should be open. If you're using passive FTP port 21 should be open, as well as a range of higher port numbers. If you check your program's configuration options, you should be able to find what these higher ports are.

I can try to connect to your FTP server if you want, but until you've opened the ports, it's not really worth bothering as it won't work.

Hi,

It seems to firewall issue from your buddy computer. Please disable firewall or check the Port:21 is opened or not. If it not open then, kindly consult your ISP.

If the problem still persists then, Please provide me the ping and tracert report from your buddy computer so that, I can assist you better.

You can ping using following command.

Go Start == > run == > type ‘Command ‘== > press enter == > then type following command on to the command prompt.

Ping ftp.yourdomainname.com

Thank you,
