have you tried commandline ftp to mirror what your PHP is doing?
just in case WSFTP is fooling you into thinking your in the same place and your not |

Good idea - Just tried that - it works fine though I can get a list of the files fine?
200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list. 85000780_160803.zip 85000780_170803.zip 85000780_180803.zip 85000780_190803.zip 85000780_200803.zip 226 Transfer complete. ftp: 105 bytes received in 0.41Seconds 0.26Kbytes/sec. |

do you change folders to get that list or is it the root folder where you log in?

Simply log in and then enter ls and there it is - the root folder is declared as / which is the same as on my local also.
