Angry Ftp Server behind a hub

This is a simple newbie question. I have cable internet connection and I am behind a 4/hub. I want to make a ftp server but due to the hub i cant get a real ip. Is there a way around this problem?

Thanks any ideas would help

I think maybe your looking for port forwarding. Tho' your hub needs to have router functions for that to work.
Win also has that peice of cra_p software port forwarding that never works and I don't even know if XP has it (the pro version might).

Well I'm using Windows XP Pro and a hub. I dont know what port forwarding is so is there a thrid party software that would help me in doing this?

is there any thing specific I should look for on the site dyndns.org?

it's a hub... router would make things easier

try using 'winroute', it can forward/redirect your ftp port to your gateway. i think it call 'port mapping' on 'winroute'

On XP pro you can use the feature built into the basic firewall. However to be able to use this feature you must enable the basic firewall (which could have undesired effects).

I can't really be bothered explaining exactly how to find it so just see the screenshot I attached.

As for setting it. Just type the IP or name of the machine hosting the FTP

I used the same thing in win2000 a while ago and had nothing but bad experiences (timeouts, DoS and a few other things).
I suggest that you invest in a harware router (which isn't too expensive) or just install the FTP daemon on the computer connected to the net.
