FTP syncronization

Any suggestions for some good FTP comparison/synchronization software? The software I currently use simply stinks and is really buggy

I'm looking for something that is a standalone synchronization program (as opposed to an FTP client with built-in sync capabilities). Also, I'd prefer for it to be free , but I would pay for it if it's good enough.
