graphical ftp server

Hi, i am very new to linux, I just switched from windows to it. I want to run a good server, right now I am using Mandrake 9.1, but later im going to switch to freebsd.
I dont know if mandrake is a good choice or not, because when i tryed installing the graphical ftp server of pure ftpd, i got all these errors from the rpm saying its conflicting with certain files. (same with wine x but thats another story which i will post later). Can anyone recommend a good graphical ftp server and tell me how to start it? I've installed wu-ftp because someone told me it was graphical, but i dont know how to start it. THanx

I suggest you read some basic documentation about linux and the differences to windows. Not the marketing sheets saying "stability, ease of use, compatibility" and that sh1t, but a technical oriented document. You should also have read the sticky thread above saying "Read me first" and you would have found out this all yourself within a few hours and even much much more:

1. Stay away from FreeBSD for the next years. At least until you laugh youself about the idea of a "graphical server". You won't be happy with BSD.

2. There is no such thing as a "graphical ftp server". you probably want "a graphical user interface for configuring an ftp server"
- They are available for all of them, afaik. Have a look at your installation CD-ROMs, the KDE packages. There should be some. Same in the GNOME section.
But I recommend you learn how to configure them without a GUI tool, or you will probably never really understand how it works.

2. You don't understand the RPM conflicts? RTFM!

3. You could not find out how to start the server? RTFM!

4. Someone told you wu-ftp was a "graphical ftp server"? Either you misunderstood him or he's got no more clue than you.

5. Choice of server is the only question I can see here that can be answered without the taste of flaming:
I'd recommend proftpd, but on the other hand it's the only one I have used so far.
Wu-Ftpd is world famous for its security holes, "they" say "it provides remote root access for everyone for 10 years straight now".
Although BugTraq did'nt mention wu-ftpd more often that other tools over the last months, so this has probably been "solved" by now.

Sorry if this all sounds kinda rude, but you are on the totally wrong track. Linux is not Windows. And linux servers are completely different from windows servers, this is one of the reasons for their stability.

hth,
M.
